Among many other projects, Made In Space launched the commercially available Additive Manufacturing Facility to the ISS in 2016.
+ Material/process specification and data development for the design, manufacture and certification of hardware
+ Research and development functions on materials to be manufactured in space (thermal vac/radiation env.)
+ Developing new or improved materials/processes/fabrication and assembly techniques
+ BS in Materials Engineering, Materials Science, or related field
+ Experience with a broad range of materials (metal alloys, polymers, composites, ceramics, etc.)
+ Knowledge in methods of manufacturing: Machining, Casting, Vacuum forming, Injection molding, Composite materials, etc.
+ Demonstrated design knowledge/understanding in CAD and related engineering
+ Strong written and verbal communication skills
+ Excitement about space and a startup environment
+ 2-5+ years experience
+ Must be a “U.S. person” as defined by the ITAR (22 CFR §120.15)
Preferred Skills and Experience:
+ MS or PhD in Materials Engineering, Materials Science, or related field
+ Development of advanced materials
+ Expertise with one of the following materials: metal alloys, polymers, composites, ceramics, etc.
+ Knowledge and demonstrated use of 3D printing technology (particularly with a materials focus)
+ Technical report writing, proposal writing, documentation skill set
